Federal and state investigators released findings of an August 2014 investigation on nursing home abuse in Brownsville, Kentucky.
On August 29, 2014 regulators released findings of abuse allegations at The Edmonson Center in Brownsville, Kentucky. Investigators determined that three employees engaged in abuse and neglect on residents. The investigators revealed that a pattern of abuse was not reported or properly investigated.
The abuse allegedly involved staff members cursing and yelling at residents. Allegations included 1) punching a resident’s breast, 2) dropping residents on to bed naked and landing on top of them, punching residents, putting soap in resident’s mouth, slapping resident, and even videotaping residents making them cluck like chickens. There were instances of cold water being poured on residents.
The abuse was only discovered after an anonymous call was made to the marketing director. Employees at the facility were aware of the abuse but did not report it because they did not think the administration would act.
